Six years ago, Gotag didn’t start as a technology company. It started as three people in Delhi fielding a phone call from an HR manager who needed a venue, a bus, catering, and a team-building format for 80 people — in nine days. That call, and hundreds like it since, is the honest answer to why we built Gotag AI. It wasn’t a market-research exercise. It was us, inside the problem, for six years, deciding we were done solving it by hand.
The Problem We Lived Inside, Not Studied From Outside
Founded in 2019, Gotag has spent six years planning corporate offsites and team outings for 50+ brands across 100+ events. In that time, the shape of the problem never really changed. An HR or admin team would reach out with a group size, a rough budget, and a date. We’d call venues, compare quotes, chase follow-ups, and come back a week — sometimes two — later with a proposal. Multiply that by every company trying to plan an offsite in India at any given time, and you get a quiet but massive amount of wasted time sitting inside a single, repeatable task.
What made this particularly frustrating to watch from the inside is that nothing about corporate offsite pricing is actually unpredictable. A resort’s rate for 60 people over two nights in October is a number that exists — it’s just locked inside years of negotiated deals, back-and-forth emails, and institutional memory that never gets written down anywhere searchable. We weren’t missing data. We were sitting on six years of it, and still pricing every new request as if we were starting from zero.
Why “Why We Built Gotag AI” Isn’t a Funding Pitch
Every other category of corporate spend has already gone instant and self-serve. You can book corporate travel, submit an expense report, or get a SaaS quote in minutes, often without talking to a human. Corporate offsite and event planning — a genuinely large global industry — never got that treatment. It’s still run on email threads, phone calls, and manual vendor outreach, the same way it was run when Gotag started in 2019.
That gap is the real reason behind Gotag AI, not a trend we wanted to chase. HR and admin teams routinely spend a week or more manually collecting 5–10 vendor quotes, with no reliable way to know if any of them are actually fair — the same venue will quote a different rate depending on who’s asking and how urgently they need an answer. We’d seen that pattern play out hundreds of times from the vendor side. Building Gotag AI meant finally fixing it from the other side of the table.
What Gotag AI Actually Does
Gotag AI is a conversational AI agent, built in-house, that takes a corporate offsite brief — group size, budget, dates, destination preference — and returns a priced, bookable proposal within minutes instead of the industry-standard multi-day wait. The difference between this and a generic AI travel chatbot is the foundation underneath it: Gotag AI is built on years of real, closed-deal transaction pricing, not scraped listings or estimated rates pulled from a public rate card.
- It’s built specifically for corporate offsite and event pricing — a category no one has built a purpose-made pricing agent for before.
- It draws on six years of actual booked deals, not public listing prices that rarely reflect what a group really pays.
- Every booking made through it feeds back into the pricing engine, so its accuracy compounds with every transaction rather than staying static.
That last point matters more than it sounds. A pricing tool that’s accurate on day one and never improves is just a calculator. We wanted something that gets sharper the more it’s used — closer, in spirit, to how a good account manager gets better at quoting the longer they’ve been in the job, except it doesn’t forget and it doesn’t need nine days to reply.
Six Years of Pattern Recognition, Encoded
Research from Harvard Business Review has long pointed out that well-run offsites and retreats have a measurable effect on team cohesion and performance — which is exactly why companies keep booking them despite how painful the planning process has been. The outcome was never in question. The planning process around it was the broken part, and that’s the piece we set out to solve.
Every one of those 100+ events we’ve delivered since 2019 taught us something about how offsite pricing actually moves — how group size changes per-person cost, how far in advance you need to book a hill-station resort in peak season, how a Friday departure prices differently from a Tuesday one. None of that was written down anywhere a computer could use it. Building Gotag AI meant finally encoding six years of pattern recognition into something that could answer in minutes what used to take us — and every other offsite planner — a week to work out by hand.
What This Looks Like From the HR Side
Picture the usual version of this task: a team lead tells HR they want an offsite for 90 people in six weeks. HR drafts a brief, emails it to four or five vendors, waits for callbacks, follows up on the ones that go quiet, compares quotes that are structured completely differently from each other, and eventually presents two or three options to finance for sign-off — a full week of work before anyone has actually decided anything. None of that week was spent on judgment calls. Almost all of it was spent waiting on replies and reconciling numbers that should have been comparable from the start.
That’s the exact sequence we built Gotag AI to shorten. Instead of a week of outreach, the same brief — group size, budget range, dates, destination preference — goes in once, and a priced, structured proposal comes back in minutes. HR still makes the final call on venue and format; what disappears is the week of waiting, chasing, and manually reconciling quotes that were never apples-to-apples to begin with.
What’s Next
Gotag AI is coming soon. We’re not launching it as a finished, static product — it’s designed to keep learning from every offsite it prices and books, the same way we did, except at a speed no planning team working by hand could ever match. If you’re an HR manager, founder, or admin lead who has ever lost a week to vendor quotes for a single offsite, this is being built for exactly that moment.
